Nestled on the southeastern coast of Barbados lies a timeless resort full of luxury and tranquility — The Crane, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club. The Crane, established in 1887, is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and pink sand beach, offering an unforgettable escape.

Resort amenities include a fitness center, an activities center, on-site restaurants, a general store, a concierge, tennis courts and duty-free shopping. The Crane’s beautiful swimming pool complex spreads out over 1.5 acres. Many Suites also have personal plunge pools.

Nearby, Crane Beach is a lovely stretch of sand with a pink tinge. There’s a beach bar and an attendant to help with loungers and umbrellas. All beaches in Barbados are public so you may find vendors on the beach.

Since The Crane is along the Atlantic Ocean, there may be strong currents or high surf. We spent 10 days in January and February, and the flag was red each day at the beach, indicating hazardous conditions. While in October, there is more Sargassum seaweed on the beach. If it affects Member enjoyment, the resort may provide a shuttle to an alternate beach located on the Caribbean Sea.

Each week, you can attend a manager’s reception and beach barbeque. The manager’s reception is a free, one-hour event held at the historic pool, where you can mingle with other Guests, resort Team Members and management and enjoy some wine, beer and appetizers. It’s a great way to meet new people and get to know the staff. The beach barbeque includes a delicious buffet (drinks not included) and entertainment. Note that there is a cost, and you need a reservation.

We have several restaurant recommendations, all within walking distance of The Crane. Cutters of Barbados — named after a local fish sandwich — serves local favorites, including a flying fish sandwich and roti. Delon’s Roti & Bar draws local and tourist crowds with food and karaoke. LeShack Restaurant and Bar has a nice brunch and dinner menu.

We also recommend Cuz’s Fish Stand, a well-known food stall near Pebbles Beach. They serve delicious fish sandwiches at great prices.

If you prefer to cook in your Suite, an Emerald City supermarket delivers groceries for a reasonable fee. You can order online for next-day delivery. This was a game-changer for us since taxis can be expensive.

Bridgetown also has a fish market, meat market and farmers market. The first market runs daily, but the other two only run on weekends.

Crane Beach in Barbados, near The Crane, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club

There are many activities and sights to enjoy in Barbados, such as water sports, golf, hiking and fine dining. We enjoyed the Mount Gay rum tour.

If you’re adventurous, take the local bus, which is more economical but less reliable. Or rent a taxi for an island tour arranged through the concierge. A driver will take you around the island and show you the sights for a few hours.

While others may enjoy more adventure, we love The Crane for its remoteness. It’s a very tranquil, quiet resort — the perfect way to enjoy the beauty of Barbados.
