The Historic Powhatan, A Hilton Vacation Club: Welcome Home
For many HGV Max Members, there’s one special destination that feels less like a vacation and more like coming home. For our family, that place is The Historic Powhatan, a Hilton Vacation Club in Williamsburg, Virginia. From the first time we drove through the gates, we felt an overwhelming sense of welcome — the kind that turns a simple trip into a tradition. It’s more than just a resort; it’s where memories are made year after year and where the phrase “welcome home” comes to life for us.
The resort itself makes settling in effortless. Spacious condo-style units with private porches invite you to linger outside with your morning coffee or enjoy dinner under the Virginia sky. Full kitchens and dining areas give us the comfort and savings of cooking at home. The beds are undeniably some of the most comfortable you’ll ever find in a resort and make for a restful sleep after a full day’s adventure. Our most recent stay was in a 4-Bedroom Suite, each with its own bathroom, which made it feel like a perfect blend of luxury and familiarity.

Days at The Historic Powhatan often begin and end around the resort’s pools. The outdoor swimming area has something for everyone: a peaceful adults-only pool for quiet relaxation, a splash area where young kids can burn off energy and a third full-size pool for the whole family to enjoy. Hot tubs are tucked into each of the main pool areas, offering the perfect way to unwind, while the poolside bar serves food and refreshing drinks. The kids especially love the complimentary popsicles, while the nearby playground and open grassy field let them run, play and laugh until sunset.
If the weather isn’t cooperating, the fun moves indoors, where a heated pool and two additional hot tubs await. Beyond swimming, the resort makes outdoor cooking a breeze with gas and charcoal grills scattered around the property — grill tools are even available at the front desk. Families can enjoy a free round of mini-golf anytime, and for those who love a little adventure, the on-site haunted mansion tour is not to be missed. We’ve taken it twice, and let’s just say there are still a few haunting moments we can’t quite explain.

The only thing nicer than being at home is staying at the resort. The following are some area attractions that keep us busy during our time in Williamsburg.
Busch Gardens® Williamsburg
Just a short drive from the resort is one of our favorite family destinations — Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Known as the world’s most beautiful theme park, it offers something for everyone. From pulse-pounding roller coasters to charming European-themed villages, Busch Gardens is a place where kids, teens and adults can all find their happy place. For us, it’s not just about the rides, it’s about walking the cobblestone streets, sampling world-class food and experiencing the magic of live entertainment together as a family. Every visit adds another page to our scrapbook of memories.
Water Country USA®
When the Virginia summer sun is at its peak, there’s no better escape than Water Country USA. With endless slides, lazy rivers and wave pools, it’s the perfect way to spend a carefree day. Our kids look forward to it all year, and we love how the park balances thrills with relaxation. Whether you’re racing down a water slide or floating peacefully along the river, Water Country USA is a reminder of how fun it can be to feel like a kid again.

Historic Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown
Of course, Williamsburg itself is steeped in history. A trip wouldn’t be complete without walking the streets of historic Williamsburg, where history comes alive through costumed interpreters, recreated taverns and hands-on experiences. It’s more than just sightseeing; it’s stepping back in time to connect with our nation’s roots. Nearby, you’ll find the Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown, both filled with stories that shaped the America we know today. These experiences give every visit depth and meaning, creating a powerful balance of fun and education.

Day Trip To Virginia Beach
Ask me what my favorite part of every trip is, and it’s without question the day we carve out for a visit to Virginia Beach. About an hour’s drive from the resort, the beach provides a change of pace and a breath of salty ocean air. We pack snacks, towels and sunscreen, and before long we’re wading into the waves or lounging in the sand. It’s the perfect complement to our Williamsburg adventures — a reminder that relaxation can be just as memorable as activity.
And no trip to the beach would be complete without a seafood feast at the end of the day. Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant offers an endless supply of delicious options for everyone, from king crab legs to sliced prime rib of beef. And whether you’re starving and need to eat right away or prefer to go home and shower first after a long beach day, Captain George’s has you covered! With locations in Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, the choice is yours!
