Las Vegas has always felt like part of my story. My parents made it a tradition to visit each year for their anniversary, and as a young adult, I joined them whenever possible. In 2002, I booked our entire family, including my brother Dean, at the Flamingo, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club. At the time, I was deeply focused on my career, working 90-hour weeks and unable to imagine slowing down to truly enjoy life. A conversation with the Hilton Grand Vacations sales team changed that, leading to my first purchase at that resort. A welcome show marked the beginning of a 23-year (and going) journey as a Hilton Grand Vacations Club Member.

As the years passed, my visits to Las Vegas continued. The frequency shifted over time. This was influenced by my favorite cousins moving there from the Chicago area, my brother’s growing appreciation for the time we shared there, and my own desire to step away from my remote home in the woods of rural Oregon. I was always drawn back to the city, the lights, and the sounds of the 1950s — Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and the familiar Rat Pack vibe. Growing up with the music of that era brought a deep sense of joy to my soul.

So why did I choose the Elara, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club? For starters, I have never stayed in a room without a spectacular view. The lights of the city, the mountain views and the sight of approaching planes have delighted me and those I’ve shared time with there. The Elara provides easy access from the airport as well as to the Miracle Mile Shops and Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Casino.
During your stay, you can work out in the on-site fitness center, relax in the lobby bar with a mojito or grab a coffee from Starbucks. The pool area is another highlight, with private cabanas available to rent by the day. It is a welcoming space to unwind and spend time with family and friends when Las Vegas temperatures begin to soar.

My favorite new attraction on the Las Vegas Strip is Sphere. I was fortunate to have a full view of it from our room in July 2024. The imagery and the creativity behind its design are truly remarkable. Do not miss the opportunity to go inside. We were lucky enough to experience an Eagles concert last year and “The Wizard of Oz” on this most recent trip. The Sphere experience defies explanation and is something you must take in both inside and out.
Most importantly, there is what Las Vegas offers off the beaten path. I have been fortunate to have my cousin Ronald and his partner Wayne as guides. In addition to introducing us to attractions, they are also culinary experts who have shown us that dining off the Las Vegas Strip is a must. I encourage you to do your own research and discover where locals go to dine. Sometimes it’s a restaurant tucked into a strip mall three miles away and well worth the short ride to get there.
