When A VIP Package Becomes An Opportunity
In early 2024, I purchased a Hilton Grand Vacations VIP package. If you’re not familiar, these packages are a preview of the Hilton Grand Vacations Club experience. You receive an allotment of Points that can be used for up to seven days of vacation. Those days can even be split between two trips, making it a great way to explore multiple resorts and see how the Club works.
Ironically, between purchasing the VIP package and using it, I decided I wanted to be part of the HGV family. I tucked the VIP envelope aside and moved forward, planning trips with my Club Points instead.
That is, until the summer of 2025.
I received a call from Hilton Grand Vacations reminding me that I only had a few months left before the VIP package expired. Instant panic set in. How was I supposed to fit seven more vacation days into a year that was already packed with travel?
Never one to back down from a challenge, I decided to make it work.

Turning One Deadline Into Two Trips
After a little rearranging, I landed on two trips that felt both valuable and manageable: visiting Washington, D.C., and New York City.
Thanksgiving Week In Washington, D.C.
Choosing Thanksgiving week in Washington, D.C. was intentional. It allowed us to travel without taking extra time off work or school, which made planning easy. We packed the car with snacks and games and headed into the city.
When we arrived at The District, a Hilton Club, the experience felt different right away. We bypassed the busy hotel lobby and went straight to the eighth floor Hilton Club concierge, where check in was seamless. The concierge introduced us to the Owners’ Lounge, escorted us to our room and even offered help with our luggage.
Inside the room, we found a personal welcome note and a fresh fruit plate waiting for us. The space exceeded expectations. It was clean, cozy, well-stocked and complete with Hilton Club bathrobes. I instantly felt at home, maybe even more relaxed than at home. After all, no one leaves fruit plates and bathrobes waiting for me there.

Exploring Washington, D.C.
Over the next few days, we explored the city at our own pace, including visits to the National Air and Space Museum, the National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, the National Museum of American History and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
We also took a short drive to Old Town Alexandria for Black Friday shopping. Having covered parking at the resort made navigating the city much easier, especially during a busy holiday weekend.
Resort Amenities That Added Real Value
The Owners’ Lounge quickly became a favorite gathering spot. The larger tables were perfect for spreading out and playing games like Uno and the Penny Game with the kids. Easy access to snacks and sodas made downtime feel just as enjoyable as sightseeing.
Breakfast was simple and flexible. We could grab freshly made omelets in the lobby or enjoy quieter options like quiche and fresh fruit in the Owners’ Lounge.
The indoor pool was another welcome feature. While it was busy over the holiday weekend, it was still a great amenity to have in late November.

A Thanksgiving To Remember
This wasn’t a traditional Thanksgiving filled with turkey and pie, but it became one of our most memorable holidays. Trading routine for experience reminded me exactly why we chose vacation ownership.
This was the second holiday we were able to spend away from home, with Christmas 2024 being the first, thanks to Hilton Grand Vacations. Up next were our remaining four VIP days in New York City, spent soaking in the magic of the Christmas season.
Why Flexibility Makes All The Difference
This experience was a powerful reminder that vacation ownership is about more than destinations. It’s about flexibility. Being able to pivot, stack experiences and turn a looming deadline into two meaningful holiday trips is exactly why Hilton Grand Vacations continues to work so well for our family.
