Thankful for Hilton Grand Vacations This Holiday Travel Season

One Elite Owner shares why he's grateful despite holiday travel plans gone awry

What a difference a year makes. Last December, when I vowed to travel relentlessly in the upcoming year, I could have never imagined there would be a pandemic to consider.

We were supposed to return to Kings' Land by Hilton Grand Vacations in Hilton Waikoloa Village to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. Our previous trip to Kings' Land was one of my most memorable travel experiences with Hilton Grand Vacations. To say we were disappointed to cancel the 2-bedroom plus suite I optimistically reserved in April would be an understatement.

The property and the Hawaiian Islands have re-opened since canceling our trip, but all’s well. Hilton Grand Vacations graciously updated their ClubPoints policy, so I don't feel we've missed out.

Thanks to the updated policy, Owners can cancel planned vacations until December 31, 2020, with no penalty or forfeited points. That allows Owners to move saved points from 2019 to 2021 with no additional charge.

So, I opted to cancel the trip and keep my points.

I'm grateful for how Hilton Grand Vacations has handled the year's challenges. As an organization, they've had to do what they can for Owners and all of the team members, whom I have thought of during this time, who make our vacations memorable.

One of the things that I truly appreciate as an Elite Owner is the warmth of the people that pull the doors back when we arrive. They offer a big smile and a genuine welcome to get you started on the vacation we all work hard to take.

Whether they're asking how they can make my stay more enjoyable or helping me save money with their suggestions on where to dine and things to do or coordinate a special occasion for my wife, they add that extra something.

In the end, I always walk away saying to myself, "Wow, what a vacation." And for that, I'm grateful and optimistic about the year ahead.

I'm looking forward to the year ahead and have already booked a 1-bedroom suite at the Grand Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta in Mexico for the week of Thanksgiving next year.

I trust Hilton Grand Vacations for all of my future vacation plans, and fingers (and toes) crossed this time next year, we'll be digging our toes in the sand and having fun in Puerto Vallarta.
