Four months after Hilton Grand Vacations soft-opened its first timeshare in Charleston, South Carolina to rave reviews from Owners and Guests, Liberty Place Charleston by Hilton Club made it official with an elegant Grand Opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 12, 2021.

Charleston's Mayor Tecklenburg personally led Owners and special invitees in a champagne toast befitting the opening of this uniquely classic and contemporary property.

Located near the Battery and within a 15-minute walk to Liberty Square, the South Carolina Aquarium, King Street shops and dining, Liberty Place Charleston exudes the spirit of Charleston’s iconic southern hospitality and obvious historic significance.

Ensuring that everyone had a chance to explore and appreciate what the city has to offer, those who stayed at the property during Grand Opening week enjoyed an historic walking- or carriage-tour, compliments of Hilton Grand Vacations.

A Site Steeped in History

The property itself occupies an important spot in Charleston, near what is thought to be the site of the famed Liberty Tree. An early rallying point for supporters of American independence, it was here that the Declaration of Independence was first read to the people of Charleston.

Prior to the Revolution, the tree was cut down and its trunk burned by the British, but later its roots were salvaged and made into cane heads – one of which was gifted to Thomas Jefferson.

Architectural buffs will want to check out the property’s historic carriage house, which is an original outbuilding of the main house built in 1803.

Vestige walls on the northern and southern sides feature an unusual English Garden Wall brick bond pattern, characterized by one row of headers to three rows of stretchers. These bricks were handmade, and some of the original mortar consisting of lime, sand and shell remains.

A Unique Blending of Design Elements

Carefully curated features throughout the resort give a nod to the property’s historic significance and the quintessential charm of Charleston. For example, the boutique-style lounge features an original light fixture in the shape of an organic tree branch, with 13 lights to represent the 13 original colonies, and a brass replica of the Liberty Tree hangs in the entryway.

The attention to detail continues in the property’s 100 beautifully appointed, thoroughly modern studios and 1-and 2-bedroom suites. Premier units include balconies, and suites offer full kitchens and separate living areas.

A refined color palette including rich blues and grays, combined with stylish furnishings and historical touches, ensures a best-of-both-worlds experience for those seeking authentic low country atmosphere while enjoying the comfort and upscale amenities of a Hilton Grand Vacations property.

Marveling at the unique and culturally rich setting of Liberty Place Charleston by Hilton Club, General Manager Eric MacMartin explained why the opening of Hilton Grand Vacations’ first timeshare in the city is so exciting. In a spot close to where the Liberty Tree once stood, he said, “We now get to grow our own roots as we build our own unique Team and provide our Owners and Guests with a home base to experience one of the world’s most sought-out travel destinations.”
