My partner and I were fortunate enough to attend the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions for the third time in 2024. You may ask yourself, “Three years in a row — is the tournament worth multiple visits?”
Our answer is yes. It’s worth the trip each and every time.
Our experience has differed vastly each year we’ve attended. In our first year, we were a bit starstruck and followed around the professional and celebrity players — taking selfies, chatting with celebrity spouses and wondering how we could be lucky enough to attend a tournament that was so open and inviting.
Last year, we focused on the experience. We spent time at Suite 18 and enjoyed a tremendous vantage point of the players as they ended their rounds. You could see the emotions on their faces and body language. Those who did well were elated. Those who didn’t have their best day — well, I’m sure you can imagine their disappointment.
Suite 18 was an experience in itself. There was food, an open bar and a DJ who kept the party going. We could’ve sat there all day in the same spot and been perfectly happy. The party lasted from day to night as we spent our evenings at private concerts in Lake Nona, Florida.
This year, we enjoyed the best of our two previous years. Quite a bit less starstruck around the players — after three years, we were all friends, right? — we followed some of our favorite LPGA and celebrity players from hole to hole, cheering them on. We reconnected with some celebrity spouses and reminisced about our first year. We were shocked when they remembered us.
We explored Lake Nona Golf & Country Club and the stands more. As American Express cardholders, we had access to an American Express lounge at the 17th hole. We found it was a great place to watch the players’ shot approaches. The tent filled with “ooohs” and “aaahs,” as well as the occasional groan when someone hit the water or cart path.
We spent a lot of time with newfound friends at the ninth hole. Like Suite 18, the ninth hole had food and beverages available. We could also hear the caddies talking to the players and advising them on their putts.
If you’re wondering whether we’ll attend again January 30–February 2, 2025, the answer is “Absolutely.”
Why?
Simply put, the players are friendly and approachable, the course is spectacular and we feel like we’re family at the tournament.
